Upcoming Solo Exhibition: The Turning Point

Upcoming Solo Exhibition: The Turning Point

I'm thrilled to finally be able to share some details of my upcoming solo show. I've called it The Turning Point and it features works that are inspired by a multi day hike I did in Lutruwita / Tasmania a number of years ago. I reflect on that walk often and it represents a turning point in many ways, for both me personally and as well as in my professional practice. It was such an incredible experience that will live with me always.

Earlier this year I wanted to flick through the photos I took on that trip but I couldn't find them anywhere. I checked every hard drive. All my backups. My phone, computer, loose SD cards from my camera. I never found them. All I could find were a handful that I'd saved from my camera to my phone. About 45 all up. Out of 1000s that I took on the trip. I was devastated. This though, turned into the impetus for the whole new body of work. Capture those memories and feelings before they fade any further. I used those last few photos as the base to create from.

This grasping and trying to hold onto the past, the sense of loss became a big part of what went into the work. I wanted to capture the visceral sensations and the visual feast that I remember so fondly. Lush, dense, ever-changing forests and micro-climates. The trail always leading me forward. The mindful, meditative rhythm of walking for hours on end. The deep sense of connection and being part of a grander scheme.

I will no doubt share some further insights and details, for now I'd love for you to save the date so we can celebrate together at the opening night. If that isn't a possibility, I've listed the gallery hours below so you can visit at your own leisure and the works will also be available to view online.
