Master Modern Colour Theory using Watercolour with Natalie Martin
Hi! I’m Nat Martin, a watercolour artist from Victoria, Australia. I’ve been captivated by this medium for as long as I can remember and while teaching is a more recent thing, there’s nothing more rewarding than helping someone explore or reconnect with their creative side.
This new course, The Magic of Colour Mixing follows on from Welcome to Watercolour and is for budding and established artists alike. In it, we’ll go deep into modern colour theory and together, we’ll build up your skills and confidence so you too can create works bursting with life and begin to develop your own language with colour.
The course also covers why it’s important to understand colour and how colour affects the mood, temperature and energy of your work. You’ll paint your own colour mixing wheel, learn about colour reference charts, how to create beautiful neutrals and earthy colours, AND, why you keep accidentally making brown (!)
Colour is such a huge part of my own work, I love using vibrant, high energy watercolour and I’m so looking forward to seeing the magic you create with your finished piece.

• Watercolour paints
• Round brushes - size 10 and 4
• Watercolour paper
• Pencil and eraser
• Two water jars
• Palette (an old plate will do)
• Paper towel
• Surface to work on
• Computer, laptop or phone
I have put together a colour mixing kit that includes the three tubes of paint, paper and some templates to practice on. Available below.

"A highly enjoyable course especially when starting out with watercolour...Natalie explains colour mixing so clearly and little projects along the way really helps bring everything together. Excellent class notes provided and great video and sound quality (which is actually quite appreciated when doing the course on the phone!)”
"There is so much useful information in this class! I thought I had a reasonable grasp on colour but Natalie has taken it to a whole new level. The presentation and examples are clear, easy to understand and really enjoyable. You will get so much out of this class! Definitely recommend you watch this, and I'm sure it will be one I come back to again and again.”
"I am a beginner painter. I really enjoyed this class, learnt a lot about using watercolour and mixing colours, and was able to produce a final artwork that I am proud of. Natalie's art is beautiful and quite inspiring. Thank you for sharing some of your knowledge and techniques for us to learn from."

Can I gift this Course?
We would be delighted for you to gift this course. Due to the way the enrolment process works, please ensure you click on the 'Gift the Bundle' button if you wish to send the bundle as a gift. This will ensure the recipient receives a hard copy of everything they need to enrol in one box.
If gifting the course alone (not the bundle), we recommend you purchase an E-Gift Card that your gift recipient can then redeem for the course. We have $69 and $119 E-Gift Cards available as well as an ability to add a personalised message to your E-Gift card.
What materials will I need to do the course?
I put an emphasis on the painting over the materials, expensive art materials tend to be a hindrance to the experience. If you have a set of watercolours already, use those! You don’t need to dash out and buy a whole lot of new supplies to match what you see in the course. You’ll also need a brush or two, some watercolour paper, pencil and eraser, a couple of water jars, a palette, plate or tile for mixing colours and some paper towel. I have two kits available in my online store that provide you with all the materials you need, see more here.
Good lighting helps too, natural light is best if you can manage it, a good workspace as well as a pinch of creative courage! We delve further into materials in the second video of the course covering not only what, but why.
Are your courses suitable for kids?
Yes! My beginners course ‘Welcome to Watercolour’ although not created specifically for kids is young person friendly, I suggest from ages 8 and up. My second course ‘Magic of Colour Mixing’ has a bit more technical content in it, so I would suggest from ages 10 and up. Even better, sit down with your kids and do it together!
What’s the difference between Teachable and Skillshare?
Purchasing the course through Teachable is a once off fee and once enrolled in the course you have lifetime access. The online course available through nataliemartin.com.au are through Teachable. Skillshare on the other hand is a subscription based model. To access the courses available you’ll need to maintain a monthly subscription service to Skillshare. Once you cancel your subscription you will no longer be able to access the course.
